MaXXXine (2024) - A Disappointing Third Chapter

Image
MaXXXine (2024) I really didn't expect this, but not at all. After a 4-hour marathon we finally arrived (at dawn at 00.15) at the last film of the Ti West trilogy. Expectations are high given the previous films and we wonder in what way, beautiful or not so beautiful, the director will end this story. Well, starting with this premise I didn't think that this last chapter could be as bad as it was, but let's start in order (I know, this is my typical phrase, but thinking back to the film that was I have to do things step by step).  The film starts well: new setting, new characters, a familiar flavor but not too much. During this first phase of the film you immediately understand that the genre leans more towards a thriller than a horror and this obviously for a person like me who loves bloody thrillers was perfect. As the film progresses, interesting things happen (also very original in their staging) and the characters introduced seem to have a significant amount of de...

Alien: Romulus (2024) - The Re(make)birth of the Alien Universe

Alien: Romulus (2024) I had pretty high expectations for this Alien chapter, even though I didn't know exactly what to expect. From the first reviews on Metacritic I had begun to suspect that it could be a classic Disney scam film and so to understand exactly, I went to the theater to see it. The film starts off exceptionally well, with this retrofuturistic setting and these lights and sets that are very reminiscent of Blade Runner 2049: the warm and orange cinematography immediately made me fall in love with the slightly dirty and gloomy vibe, which would then continue for the entire experience. The first act is therefore excellent, full of identity and innovative elements, as well as references to other science fiction films. The characters are introduced (who are almost too beautiful to be boys forced into forced labor) and from their departure (where I won't say) the adventure begins. The timing in this part is divinely managed, and during the viewing I never had the impr...

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - The Movie that DIDN'T Save the MCU

Image
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) I admit that I had high expectations for this third film, both because it was the only Marvel film coming out this year, and because a film about this character (who I loved in the first 2 films) hadn't come out since 2018; however, the wait, against all odds, didn't bring the desired results. Because this "Deadpool & Wolverine" isn't even identifiable as a film. The story could have been 500 times simpler, more linear, more intimate (perhaps focused only on the 2 fucking characters of the title) and instead it ends up being a jumble of senseless things, put in random order and without the slightest chemistry between all the characters; even the relationship between Logan and Wade is truly one of the worst things seen in a film.  A relationship based on beating each other up? How fucking childish can that be. It almost seems like the two actors had more connection in interviews and press conferences than on set. However, lea...
